Vocational training and professional development
To support people who are in work and who want to stay on top of
developments in science, engineering and technology advances and to
improve their skills and knowledge, we aim to make another 20% of
our funds available for training programmes and professional
development studies. To achieve this, we work through relevant
professional organisations and recognised institutions around the
world.
Purpose
Through appropriate organisations, to help employed scientists,
engineers, technologists, and people actively involved with
ensuring the safety of life and property, improve their knowledge
and skills through training and further study. Vocational training
and professional development
Scope: worldwide.
Duration: funding is normally provided for three
to five years.
Examples of our funding
CHINA EUROPE INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS SCHOOL (CEIBS),
PRC
CEIBS is the leading business school in Asia. It
has built an excellent reputation as a model for business education
and research through its rigorous programmes, outstanding students,
active alumni, and international industry forums. The LRET is
funding a four-year programme of courses and research to raise
awareness among managers and the public in China of the importance
of strategic management of safety and risk to reduce threats to
people, the environment, assets and business from different types
of hazards. The awareness includes an understanding of major
accident hazards, safety and risk management systems and the role
of management and organisation culture as well as organisational
change management.
ROYAL NATIONAL LIFEBOAT INSTITUTION (RNLI),
UK
The RNLI is a charity that operates a search and
rescue lifeboat service in the UK and Eire and on the River Thames
and a seasonal lifeguard service on selected beaches. It saves
lives at sea through its lifeboat crews, lifeguards and by
providing safety advice. There are over 230 lifeboat stations
around the UK and Eire and a lifeguard service on over 70 beaches
in England and Wales. The RNLI provides essential training to
ensure its largely volunteer crews are fully equipped to save lives
as safely as possible. The LRET helps fund the Sea Survival Course,
a mandatory three-day training programme for all crew members. For
both novices and experienced mariners, the Course improves skills
and provides the opportunity to put knowledge into practice.
