David Moorhouse was appointed as Chairman of Lloyd's Register in
November 1999 and assumed the additional responsibilities of Chief
Executive from May 2000 to July 2007.
David has been a non-executive member of Lloyd's Register's Board
and a member of the Lloyd's Register Audit Committee since October
1997; he became a specially elected member of the Lloyd's Register
General Committee in July 1995.
In January 2005, he was appointed a non-executive director of UK
broker Braemar Seascope. David is also a Trustee of the National
Maritime Museum, appointed by the UK Prime Minister in October
2005. He is a life member of the UK Foundation of Science and
Technology (having been a Council Member for eight years).
Previous employment
David joined John
Brown Engineering and Constructors Ltd in 1975, and was appointed a
main Board director of John Brown Plc in 1986. Following the
take-over of the company by Trafalgar House, he was appointed
managing director of the UK operations of John Brown, and in 1989
he was appointed to the Board of Trafalgar House Engineering. In
1992, he was made Chairman and Chief Executive of the worldwide
engineering businesses of Trafalgar, John Brown. In 1996, Trafalgar
House was purchased by the Norwegian group, Kvaerner, and David was
appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Process
Division, and a member of the Management Board of Kvaerner.
David also worked for 15 years as an adviser to nine UK energy/oil
ministers (OSO, part of the DTI).
Qualifications
An engineer by training, in
2005 David was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of
Southampton in recognition of his work in engineering. He also
holds Honorary Membership of the Hellenic Marine Environment
Protection Association.
