Climate change is an issue that affects us all. Equally, it is an
issue that we can all affect.
Businesses across the world will need to play their part
in:
- Mitigating emissions of greenhouse
gases
- Adapting to the potential impacts of climate change
LRQA can assist clients by providing the services needed
to demonstrate the effectiveness of their climate change management
strategies, ensuring they are able to receive a fair reward for
their improvements from financial markets, regulators and
customers.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
Fourth Assessment Report of 2007 states that 'Warming of the
climate system is unequivocal, as is now evident from observations
of increases in global average air and ocean temperatures,
widespread melting of snow and ice and rising global average sea
level.
Global GHG emissions due to human activities have grown since
pre-industrial times, with an increase of 70% between 1970 and
2004'. And 'Altered frequencies and intensities of extreme weather,
together with sea level rise, are expected to have mostly adverse
effects on natural and human systems.'
