Emission Trading Schemes
What is ETS Verification?
A process which verifies that a company's reported greenhouse
gas emissions are accurate and conform to the applicable scheme and
national requirements.
LRQA currently offers the following applicable schemes:
What can ETS verification do for you?
- you will publicly demonstrate your company's compliance with
scheme requirements
- it will establish the integrity of your system(s) and processes
that generate your emission data
- it helps you to identify deficiencies against requirements
defined in the scheme
- it helps identify opportunities for improvement in the accuracy
and completeness of data
- it provides you with our verification opinion statement for
submission to the relevant authorities
- it allows you to register your verified emissions and trade
surplus amounts.
Who can be verified?
EU ETS Scheme
It is mandatory for those sectors listed in Annex I of the EU
ETS Directive.
All installations covered by the EU ETS scheme must hold a
greenhouse gas permit, or you will be liable to financial
penalties. Currently it only covers carbon dioxide but may be
expanded in the future to cover other greenhouse gases.
How can LRQA help?
We offer pre-verification assessments where we'll review your
monitoring and reporting systems and confirm compliance with your
greenhouse gas permit. This can be done in advance of your formal
annual verification visit.
We corroborate your annual actual emissions and determine whether
you are in compliance with your annual allowance.
We also conduct emission baseline verifications on the data you
have to submit to your authority on which your allowances are
assigned. An independent verification gives your base year
emissions credibility during the allocation process.
We will make phased visits - flexible arrangements - to make sure
your verification is cost-effective and completed within critical
timelines.
