Joint Implementation (JI)
What is JI determination and verification?
Determination of JI projects is a validation of the project design
documentation. This assessment is mandatory if the country where
the project takes place has not established a GHG inventory and
reporting procedures in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol.
Verification determines emissions reductions or removals, and
compliance with applicable Kyoto Protocol criteria. Verification is
mandatory for JI projects when host countries do not meet
applicable methodology and reporting requirements as defined in the
Kyoto Protocol and Marrakech Accords.
What can JI validation and verification do for you?
- it will establish the integrity of your project design document
and other key documents (determination)
- it will establish the integrity of your system(s) that monitor,
calculate and report your project's emissions reduction data
(verification)
- it provides the UNFCCC with confirmation of your conformance
with JI guidelines and procedures
- it provides you with our validation report allowing you to
register your project and a verification statement to obtain
emission reduction credits.
Who can be validated and verified?
Companies in industrialised countries wishing to reduce emissions
through co-operative efforts on JI projects. JI projects are most
likely to take place in countries with transitioning economies.
How can LRQA help?
We offer determination of your JI project by validating your
project design documentation.
We also verify emission reductions credits and project compliance
with criteria defined in the Kyoto Protocol.
We will make flexible visits to make sure your project design
documents and other key documents are independently validated and
verified against scheme requirements.
