Environmental protection
Helping you to manage risks to the environment
In todays environmentally conscious world there is increasing
pressure on you to minimise the impact of your operations on the
environment. Maritime authorities need to be confident about the
vessels they allow to enter environmentally sensitive areas, and
being able to demonstrate a high level of environmental performance
helps you achieve a competitive advantage.
Lloyds Register was the first classification society to
introduce an environmental standard, and our award-winning service
continues to be the industry leader.
What does our service involve?
Our Rules for Environmental Protection consist of two parts. The
core modules help you to attain a level of performance which
exceeds international legislative requirements for:
- oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and sulphur (SOx) emissions
- refrigerants and fire-fighting agents
- oil pollution prevention
- garbage handling and disposal
- sewage treatment
- hull anti-fouling systems
- ballast water.
Further optional modules have even more stringent requirements,
helping you gain recognition for additional investment in specific
aspects of pollution control.
What are the benefits?
- You can attain our Environmental Protection notation, publicly
demonstrating your commitment to running an environmentally sound
business.
- It helps you control operational pollution, minimising the risk
of an environmental incident.
- Your operational efficiency is improved, minimising the risk of
fines and litigation.
