Hull Integrity
Managing structural confidence
As an operator, you can gain additional benefit from the results
of your own hull inspections by using them to help satisfy the
requirements of the various regulatory and commercial third parties
for hull inspection data.
Our Hull Integrity service makes this possible. It also helps you
to reduce the risk of structural failure, increasing confidence in
the condition of your vessels and helping you to improve
safety.
What is Hull Integrity?
Hull Integrity provides you with the guidance and tools you need
to help manage the structural integrity of your fleet. Based around
a regime of structural inspections carried out by trained senior
ship's officers or superintendents, it uses simple techniques to
help improve confidence in your structural inspection
programme.
You can benefit from Hull Integrity whether or not your ships are
classed by Lloyd's Register. It is suitable for existing and
newbuild vessels of all types.
What are the benefits?
- More effective inspection and recording procedures can lead to
a reduced risk of structural failure, helping to improve safety and
structural confidence.
- The service helps to increase the availability of your fleet by
reducing downtime, both planned and unplanned.
- It can help to reduce maintenance costs by identifying defects
and deterioration early on, allowing timely preventative action,
more accurate repair budgets and improved long-term cost
forecasting.
- Hull Integrity also helps you to demonstrate to charterers and
financiers that your ships are maintained to high
standards.
How can Lloyd's Register help?
The service can be broken down into three main elements:
Training and support
We provide the technical
training necessary to enable your inspectors to carry out Hull
Integrity inspections, both in the classroom and by distance
learning. We have also developed a computer-based training course
to help you get the most out of Hull Integrity, covering the
inspection, recording and analysis functions of the software that
forms part of the service.
Ship-specific hull inspection guides
When you enrol with the service, you receive a ship specific hull
inspection guide for each of your vessels. These guides use
extracts from ships' plans to identify locations within the cargo
and ballast tanks that need to be looked at during inspections,
including fatigue hotspots and any other areas identified from
classification records, previous inspections and operator
experience.
We also provide a Tank Coatings Condition Guide, which
covers methods for assessing coating condition and includes colour
images of tank coatings in various conditions, data on areas prone
to corrosion and coating condition reports.
User-friendly software
We provide software
that generates inspection checklists to provide your inspectors
with guidance on where to look and what to look for during
inspections. It contains simple templates to help them record their
results, which are then uploaded to a secure database on the
internet for review.
It also includes features such as a defect and repair list
generator, which can help you to produce drydock repair
specifications. It is designed to be extremely easy to use.
