ShipRight software
Helping to optimise design
ShipRight is a comprehensive system of mandatory and voluntary
procedures aimed at helping to ensure that the highest standards of
safety, quality and reliability are achieved at the design stage,
during construction and for the whole operational lifetime of your
ship. Lloyds Register offers two software packages to support you
in implementing some of these procedures.
What is the ShipRight software?
We have developed software to support the following ShipRight
procedures that apply during the design phase of your ships
lifecycle:
- Structural design assessment (SDA), which helps give you
confidence in the structural integrity of your vessel.
- Fatigue design assessment (FDA), which enables you to analyse
the fatigue performance of structural details in your
vessel.
What are the benefits?
- Using ShipRight software tools helps you to save time and cost
through faster modelling and assessment processes.
- The software helps improve efficiency at the initial design
stage, leading to higher confidence in Rule compliance.
- The tools have been designed to work alongside your design
offices established processes.
How can Lloyd's Register help?
ShipRight SDA software
This is a finite element modelling (FEM) tool that is optimised
for ship type structures. It contains individual modules covering
modelling, meshing, loading, analysis and post-processing. Each
module is highly automated and can be easily adapted to work with
your existing process through its interface with Nastran/Patran.
You can use the software as a complete self-contained system or you
can use any of its modules to supplement your existing system. Full
user documentation is supplied together with example models.
The software has been designed to work with your existing
process, using models that you already prepare when designing
ships.
The latest version of the software fully supports the direct
calculation requirements for the Common Tanker Rules as well as UR
S25 for bulk carriers.
ShipRight FDA Level 2 software
This helps you to quickly carry out a fatigue life assessment on
your ship design and readily identify critical areas that may be
prone to fatigue, allowing you to modify your design accordingly
helping to avoid potentially costly repairs later in your vessels
life.
Design arrangements can be modelled and analysed rapidly using a
simplified spectral analysis method incorporating:
- standard joint configuration types including radii and welding
details
- ship voyage pattern and environmental loading
- ship motions, global hull bending and local (non-linear) wave
pressure loads.
Full analysis and results presentation are fast and efficient,
and electronic access to the Structural Detail Design Guide is also
provided.
