Certification
What is certification?
Within the Oil and Gas industry, certification service can be
identified as a verification or certification process and can vary
in approach and detail. Depending on the terminology adopted by the
country or local market in question, these titles could be
essentially referring to the same process, which does lead to some
confusion. In both cases, it is an independent assurance service of
some form.
In the case of floating assets, assurance may include
classification. The Lloyd's Register Group is a leading
classification society, working to published in-house class Rules.
See classification for
more information.
There is usually a mix of statutory and non-statutory elements
within a project. The scope and approach within an assurance
service will usually be arrived at through a combination of the
detailed provisions within the local statutory regime, as well as
specific client preferences.
The usual service deliverable is a certificate confirming that
our design verification, manufacturing and construction
surveillance activities have generated a level of confidence that
the industrial activity is achieving the performance objectives.
This is supported by the judgement and experience of our technical
specialists.
The certification of risk critical equipment items supplied to
projects by equipment manufacturers is an important element of the
risk management process.
This process particularly needs to consider what contribution
individual items of equipment make to the design performance
standards that apply to asset. Interpreting these issues and
addressing the interfaces and inter-dependencies that arise is best
achieved by integrating the verification of equipment manufacturing
into the overall verification service for the project.
