Fixed and floating structures technology

The Group's specialists comprise structural and civil engineers, geotechnical engineers and naval architects, who provide expertise in fixed and floating steel and concrete structures.

The structural types we cover include steel jackets, jack-up platforms, concrete gravity based platforms, FPSOs, tension leg platforms, semi-submersibles, barges, spars, and buoys.

For fixed structures, we carry out independent linear analyses for new structures. We use non-linear pushover analyses for assessing the residual strength of damaged structures. We provide consultancy for platform uprating. We optimise inspection planning using the results from pushover analyses.

For floating units, we carry out hydrodynamic modelling and motion response analyses, and feed the results into finite element models to determine hull stresses and fatigue life. We use fracture mechanics techniques within services related to weld defects and failures.
