Major project assurance
Governments and other stakeholders often wish to gain assurance
that a large and complex system, like a new railway, meets
appropriate requirements for issues such as safety, RAM,
operability and performance. As well as Independent Safety
Assessment and statutory certification activities, there is a need
for one body to take an overview of the whole system.
How we can help
- Our services can be tailored to your particular requirements
using a range of independent assurance tools and specialist staff.
We cover not just safety but performance, asset management and
commercial aspects as well.
- Our work will involve an evaluation of the outputs of the
project to ensure compliance with requirements. This may involve
witnessing tests to demonstrate quality, function, safety and
performance. It will also involve checking the output of each
design lifecycle phase to make sure it fulfils requirements defined
in client and project documents.
What are the benefits?
- Appointing Lloyd's Register Rail to review all the assurance
work that has taken place on a complex project reduces both the
safety and project risk and contributes to the delivery of the
project on time, to specification and within budget.
- Our approach ensures that issues can be identified early on and
measures taken at an appropriate time. In most cases, this will be
more efficient and beneficial to all parties in a project as it
avoids identifying issues late on in a project and finding that
costly and time-consuming rework is necessary to resolve
them.
Recent projects
- Taiwan High Speed Railway - On behalf of the Government of
Taiwan, Lloyd's Register independently assured the suitability of
the design, construction and operation of the new line built
between Taipei and Koashung over a period of 6 years and provided a
certificate.
- Dubai Metro Independent Safety Assessment - Lloyd's Register is
working with the Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai and their
contractors to build a system-wide view of the safety of a complex
fast-track metro project. Our core team in Dubai and domain experts
are working across system and contract boundaries to establish
confidence in the safety of the railway. We have gathered evidence
from reviews of design and safety submissions, and audits of
processes at design and manufacturing sites worldwide. When the
railway is ready to open, the Roads and Transport Authority can be
confident that it will be one of the safest in the world.
