Railway product certification
Our railway product certification uses robust and accredited
processes based on our Notified Body activities to demonstrate
compliance against a range of international railway standards.
How we can help
Our approach is based around our unique and proven
interpretative protocols which provide guidance to assessors and
clients on the requirements of a standard and how to demonstrate
compliance. Some European standards are large and complex and this
approach helps to ensure consistency and clarity. The evidence for
compliance is gathered into a Technical File which forms the basis
for certification.
We will typically carry out a preliminary assessment to give
confidence to all parties that the product, system or process is
likely to achieve certification. This will typically be followed by
a period of audit, review of design documentation and witnessing of
tests. We adapt our approach to use existing evidence of compliance
or certification whenever possible.
There are times when the most cost-effective approach to
independently assuring a product or system is to inspect the item
at key stages of manufacture and on completion using specialist
inspectors, often in your own factory.
What are the benefits?
A Lloyd's Register certificate of compliance provides increased
confidence to your customers of your product's ability to satisfy,
or exceed, their requirements. It shows a commitment to safety and
offers the potential to compete on quality and not just price.
Recent projects
- For Westinghouse Rail Systems, UK, we performed the generic
product Independent Safety Assessment for a Distance To Go - Radio
train control and protection system. We then extended the
assessment to provide a certificate of compliance against EN50129,
the European Norm for covering Safety Related Electronic Systems
for Railway Signalling.
- For Huawei Industries, PR China, we carried out the
certification of their GSM-R train radio system against the
European Standard EIRENE.
