Track and civil engineering
Our permanent way and civil engineering expertise draws on
significant experience in both heavy and light rail environments.
Whether your needs relate to track layout and design, maintenance
regimes and the impact on whole life asset management, structures
condition assessment and investment/renewals planning, we have the
capability to provide objective independent support.
How we can help
- Strategic advice and engineering support on infrastructure
development, scheme feasibility, improvements and renewals
- Standards development
- Technical audit and checking
- Technical and commercial support in railway structures
engineering and buildings management
- Contract and project management
- Provision of experts for formal enquiries and
investigations.
What are the benefits?
Civil engineering structures and the permanent way represent a
significant proportion of any rail organisations asset base - and a
critical component to the delivery of service to customers. Our
advice and support can provide you with a robust approach to the
development and management of the assets - and improved risk
management.
Recent projects
- Our feasibility report and cost estimates for a major
replacement project for GMPTE were used to gain government funding.
We wrote the specification for 30km of track renewal and assisted
with tender assessment. The accepted tender matched our cost
estimate so adequate funding was in place. We continued to support
the client through design and implementation of both track and
signalling.
- We provided core engineering input in signalling,
telecommunications and track to a client consortium headed by
English Partnerships to support the business case for the East West
Rail Project linking Oxford to Cambridge. Previous studies were
updated and bottom up assessments were undertaken, leading to the
development of some innovative and cost effective solutions for
returning low usage and mothballed sections of track back to
service.
