Lloyd's Register EMEA supports Helmepa training programme
Lloyd's Register EMEA is supporting the Hellenic Marine Environment
Protection Association's (Helmepa) Voluntary Refresher Training
Programme for 2005, which will focus on the application of
regulations for pollution prevention and maritime safety and
security. The Programme is implemented on an annual basis and forms
part of Helmepa's overall training initiative, aimed at addressing
the role of the human element in preserving the marine
environment.
Each year, the Voluntary Refresher Training Programme covers a
different syllabus and is extended to officers and staff of the
Association's member companies. Participants are awarded a Helmepa
certificate of attendance, which has been endorsed by both the
International Maritime Organization's Standards of Training and
Watchkeeping Sub-Committee and Greece's Ministry of Merchant
Marine.
The 2005 Refresher Training Programme will run from November 2,
2004 to December 16, 2005 and will consist of a series of four-day
seminars grouped around the central themes of pollution prevention
and maritime safety and security.
Apostolos Poulovassilis, Manager of Lloyd's Register EMEA's
Piraeus, Mediterranean and Black Sea Office, says: "Helmepa's
mission to 'save the seas' is a highly worthy cause and the work
the Association does within the Greek maritime community is
instrumental to the industry's success. Lloyd's Register EMEA
shares Helmepa's commitment to training, the human element and the
preservation of the marine environment and is therefore delighted
to support the 2005 Voluntary Refresher Training Programme."
Dimitris Mitsatsos, Director-General of Helmepa, says: "It has
been 22 years since the day George P Livanos challenged me to join
Helmepa and to promote what it stands for. It is gratifying and
indeed encouraging for me and for my colleagues that, at the launch
of the 2005 Voluntary Refresher Training Programme, Lloyd's
Register EMEA and all those who honour the efforts of Helmepa
demonstrated once again their commitment to addressing the human
element in the pursuit of clean, safe and secure shipping."
