Environment certificate to Petroships
Lloyd's Register Asia has awarded ISO 14000 certification to
Petroships Pte Ltd for its entire managed fleet of tankers. ISO
14000 is an internationally recognised standard which indicates
that a company has mitigated its environmental risks. Lloyd's
Register Asia's Singapore Office conducted the audit leading to the
certification.
"As well as being one of Southeast Asia's most respected ship
operators, Petroships is a leader for risk management and
environmental awareness. While the tanker sector continues to come
under enhanced scrutiny from regulators and the public at large, it
is reassuring to see the company setting such a good example," says
John Curley, Marine Manager for Singapore and Southeast Asia,
Lloyd's Register Asia.
Prior to the award of ISO 14000 certification, Petroships was
one of the first companies to roll out Lloyd's Register's
operational risk assessment software, Mariner, across its fleet and
in its head office to help it mitigate environmental risks. Using
risk assessment principles and a structured approach, Lloyd's
Register Mariner helps operators achieve the safety management
objectives of the ISM Code and the security objectives of the ISPS
Code and enables them to demonstrate compliance with prevailing
risk assessment requirements and best practice.
"We are a major transporter of petroleum products in Southeast
Asia, providing a branded service," says Kenneth Kee, Managing
Director of Petroships Pte Ltd. "Lloyd's Register Asia's input has
been invaluable in helping us to minimise the environmental impact
of our operations and achieve a proven track record of both safety
and reliability."
