Rybovich chooses Lloyd's Register for yacht classification
training
Experienced marine training instructors from Lloyd's Register
North America, Inc. recently held a two-day training course at the
Rybovich yacht repair facilities in West Palm Beach, Florida. The
"Yacht Classification and Statutory Requirements" course was held
as part of Rybovich's Personal Advancement Through Training (PATT)
program, an extensive career development and advancement program
offered to Rybovich team members.
The Lloyd's Register course was attended by 37 delegates from
Rybovich's repair service center and covered topics ranging from
the basics of classification and statutory requirements to
notations, design appraisal, periodical survey requirements,
stability and loadline issues, and safety requirements for yachts.
Tailored to fit Rybovich's specific needs, the course was designed
to:
- clarify the role and function of a classification society;
- enhance the yard's understanding of a classification society's
requirements for both classification and statutory surveys;
and
- help the yard prepare for scheduled major surveys and repair
and re-fit periods.
Rybovich, which was founded in 1928, has recently undergone an
extensive expansion project opening a new 40,000 square foot,
mega-yacht, service center with a 660 metric ton Travelift, a large
mobile boat lift used to drydock and move vessels within the
shipyard. Currently, Rybovich is one of the largest full-service,
yacht repair and building facilities in South Florida. "Through
significant investments in training, Rybovich is committed to
growing its workforce with the necessary skills, expertise, and
qualifications required in today's yachting environment," says
Robert Studebaker, Director of Training for Rybovich. "We look
forward to working with Lloyd's Register for our continuing
training needs."
"The development and delivery of these training modules
represents a milestone for Lloyd's Register in the North American
market, as they will serve to enhance our ability and strategy to
further penetrate the yacht market in the Americas," comments John
Hicks, Manager Passenger Ships and Design Support in Lloyd's
Register's Passenger Ship Centre in Fort Lauderdale.
