The IMarEST collection at Lloyd's Register
Details on the historical library of IMarEST. The collection is now held at Lloyd's Register's office at 71, Fenchurch street in London.
At the end of June 2011, the library collection of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) was transferred to the Information Centre at Lloyd's Register's London office at 71, Fenchurch Street. By offering the library a new home, Lloyd's Register has ensured that this important resource is still available to all. The relocation of the library was part of a planned move of the IMarEST's headquarters to new premises at 33, Aldgate High Street during the summer of 2011. Opening times
The Information Centre and IMarEST collections at 71, Fenchurch Street are open to the public Monday to Friday between 09:30-12:00 and 13:00-16:30.

Library catalogue
The IMarEST will continue to host the on-line library catalogue while the data is transferred to Lloyd's Register and new arrangements made. You can access the catalogue via the IMarEST website.
Background to the collection
The IMarEST was established in 1889 and is the largest international membership body and learned society for marine professionals with over 15,000 members worldwide. The historical library's new home will allow the material, built up over many years, to be more widely accessed and used by researchers visiting Lloyd's Register. The IMarEST will continue to provide its members with Information & Knowledge Services and a virtual library online providing e-books. Through its Marine Information Centre, it will also continue to hold the Institute's own publications and some current specialist books, empowering members with marine engineering, technical and scientific knowledge.

The IMarEST collection at Lloyd's Register covers a wide-range of subject areas including: offshore engineering, ship design, renewable energy, steam turbines, gas turbines, electrical systems, engines, radio/radar, welding, hydrodynamics, vibration, hydrogeology, pollution, fishing boats and fisheries, seamanship, salvage, quality control, ship management, marine engineering, materials, combustion, lubrication, heating/ventilation, pumps and pipes, future ocean technology, naval architecture, fluid mechanics, dredging and marine navigation to name but a few.
Resources at Lloyd's Register
IMarEST members and the wider public can benefit from access to the physical library collections by visitor appointment at the historical library's new home at the Lloyd's Register Information Centre in Fenchurch Street. The reference facility allows visitors to view the numerous conference proceedings, journal series, technical reports and reference titles.
Photocopying facilities are available but books cannot be borrowed. Lloyd's Register is committed to ensuring the library continues to stock current titles going forward. Researchers are asked to work with us to highlight the material they require so the collection can continue to be a primary resource that meets reader's needs. Document delivery is available at a charge consistent with Lloyd's Register's main Historical Research Service.
