We are looking for talented, ambitious graduates to join our Marine Graduate Training Scheme to be technical specialists and future leaders of our business and build a rewarding career in the marine industry. It is a four year training scheme, where you will have plenty of time to acquire a broad base of knowledge and experience whilst honing your practical skills.
During this time, we will provide you with all the technical skills and experience you need to become a world-class marine surveyor, including in-depth training from a range of industry-leading experts within our organisation. After the first two years, you will put your skills into practice on placement which could be anywhere in the world.
Once you have completed the scheme, you will meet the requirements for appointment as a full surveyor and qualify for registration as a Chartered Engineer by the Engineering Council UK.
If you join us as an Electrical or Materials Engineer, then your training programe will differ slightly as it will be more tailored to the specialist work that you’ll be involved in.
The scheme is accredited with the IET, IMechE, RINA and IMarEST.
The first two years of the Graduate Training Scheme will include:
Shipyard experience
We will provide 15 weeks of invaluable, practical shipyard experience with our clients in a commercial environment. Offering an opportunity to practice existing skills and develop a host of new ones, you will have a hand in both ship repair and construction.
Technical and soft skills training
Over the two years, you will receive in-depth training from the experts that set the standards within Lloyd’s Register and, indeed, the industry. Courses provided include materials, non-destructive evaluation, fire and safety and soft skills training.
Outport office placements
By spending four months at one of our UK regional offices and one placement elsewhere within Europe, you will gain an insight into the life of a surveyor by going out on existing or new build ship surveys.
We are a truly global organisation with offices in over 78 countries. During the initial two-year training period, you will find yourself on placement most likely within Europe or the Middle East.
Practical engineering course
This is a ten week course which provides practical experience of a range of fabrication skills and the operation and maintenance of marine machinery.
London office placement
Working in various departments within the London office, you will spend time in our Classification Group and key areas of the business such as Ship Structures, Engineering Systems, Ship Emergency Response Services and Electrotechnical. This will provide you with an opportunity to understand our services and enable you to build your networks within the organisation.
Mentoring sessions
Throughout the programme your mentor will support your technical training and assess your performance. It will help you to form a clear vision of where you’re heading and how you can get there.
Time at sea
Gaining first hand experience of the operation and maintenance of a working ship is crucial to every graduate’s development. We will ensure you spend around four weeks on one of our client’s vessels to broaden your technical know-how.
During the first two years, you will also work on business related projects which will have a direct impact on the organisation and the way we operate.
