First choice for cruise ship classification
A market-leading 45% of the cruise fleet is classed by Lloyds
Register ranging in size from 500 to over 150,000 gt. We provide a
full range of classification services from conceptual design
appraisal, through design approval, construction and in-service
survey.
We provide unrivalled passenger safety surveys through our
worldwide surveyor network, and foster excellent relationships with
our clients.
What is our experience?
We currently class more than 100 cruise ships a total of over 5
million gt including the 151,400 gt, Cunard flagship vessel
Queen Mary 2, built at Chantiers de lAtlantique in France,
and Arcadia which, at 83,000 gt, is the largest, most
spacious member of the P&O Cruises fleet. At this time there
are seven cruise ships on order to Lloyds Register class, all being
constructed at Fincantieri in Italy. They include:
- Two ships each for Carnival Cruises and Princess Cruises. Each
of these vessels will carry more than 2,500 passengers and contain
unique features appealing to a broad clientele. The vessels will be
delivered from the third quarter of 2005.
- A ship for Holland America Line, due in early 2006, and a
further vessel for Cunard, which is expected in 2007.
How can Lloyd's Register help?
We can provide a range of general classification and other
value-added services (see Related Services links), in
particular:
Using noise and vibration criteria to assess comfort for
passengers and mariners, we provide an objective assessment of
expected standards. Benefits include:
- a potential reduction in passenger complaints
- improved crew living conditions
- better design and workmanship during construction.
Our fire engineering service helps designers to evaluate
alternative proposals for compliance with Regulation 17 of the
revised Chapter II-2 of SOLAS. The benefits of using a
performance-based fire engineering analysis include:
- flexibility and safety of design
- cost benefits
- improved knowledge of loss potential.
We can offer you independent advice to help you optimise your
design at the pre-contract stage and ensure that the proposed
design of your new vessel will comply with essential
legislation.
