"After seeing the breadth of opportunities and career paths Lloyd’s Register had to offer while I was on their Sponsorship Scheme, I jumped at the chance to carry on learning and growing with the Graduate Training Scheme. The Scheme provides great travel opportunities, chartered status and was directly relevant to my degree. I loved the Scheme, which gave me the opportunity to learn from our experts in various locations, including Rotterdam and Singapore.
"Life after the Graduate Training Scheme is very non-prescriptive, with plenty of opportunities to take your career with Lloyd’s Register in the direction that best suits you. Although I started on the technical route when I joined, I decided I wanted to explore the business aspects so it’s great that Lloyd’s Register offers a Management Development Programme to support this. Successful completion of the programme has helped me develop my career further. This, together with the foundations laid through the graduate training and my roles thereafter, have led me to where I am now – part of a dynamic team responsible for helping grow our UK & Ireland Marine Business.
"There is never a ‘standard day’ in my current role. My work centres around managing client activity in the UK & Ireland, working closely with our Client Relationship Managers to develop and implement strategies of how Lloyd’s Register can better help ship owners. Around 50% of Shipowners and Managers in the UK class their ships with Lloyd’s Register so it’s vitally important we understand what’s happening in the industry and respond to our clients’ needs – being in touch with the market and clients is a part of the job I really enjoy. In the office, it’s a really busy and lively atmosphere – there’s never a dull moment. What really makes it special for me working here is my belief in Lloyd’s Register and what it’s about – I genuinely believe that what we do does make a difference. The organisation is built on the outstanding expertise of our people globally, and this has enabled me to personally benefit, through helping me learn and take on new challenges.
"In terms of where next? Well, a usual ‘posting’ with Lloyd’s Register is 2-4 years, so only one year into my current position, it is early days and I am completely enjoying where I am now. Longer term, I aspire to being in a senior commercial role within the organisation and hope my current experience and skills will help get me there."
