Sara - Plan Approval Surveyor
I work in the lifting appliances department in Hamburg, Germany as a Plan Approval Surveyor.
I work in the lifting appliances department in Hamburg, Germany as a Plan Approval Surveyor. In this role, I work on various lifting appliances in marine environment (mainly offshore cranes) checking their design and making sure that everything is up to the required standards. Finally if everything is proved to be safe, I approve the drawings, otherwise, I will ask for change in the design.
My career with Lloyd's Register began in 2007 when I started to work at Martec, a leading structural consulting company in Halifax, Canada, which joined the Lloyd’s Register group a few months later. I came to the Hamburg office for a short assignment in the lifting appliances group in 2008. After returning to Canada, although I still loved my job in Martec, I decided that I would like to take the challenge, to move to Germany, and work in the Hamburg office.
What I love about my job is that it is something that does matter, and this is so much beyond just being a slogan. A lifting appliances accident can be catastrophic and even fatal. Every time I read about such an accident somewhere in the world, I get reminded of the importance of my job and my responsibilities. At the same time, having the support of my skilled, experienced and dedicated team-mates gives me the confidence to handle this challenge. And that’s another aspect of this job that I really enjoy, working with people who are supportive and helpful.
Working at Lloyd’s Register, I have got to know many amazing people from different parts of the world. This career has been a valuable life experience for me. And at the end, it’s only life that matters.
