ATEX 137 (94/9/EC) and ATEX 95 (1999/92/EC)

European Directives for workers and equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres

The ATEX directives are two distinct sets of European requirements that deal with different safety considerations regarding potentially explosive atmospheres. ATEX 137 (1999/92/EC) concerns itself with mitigating the effects of explosive atmospheres on people in the workplace. ATEX 95 (94/9/EC) settles the requirements for equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

ATEX 137 (1999/92/EC) concerns itself with mitigating the effects of explosive atmospheres on people in the workplace.  Compliance is required if you operate a plants potentially endangered by explosive atmospheres.

ATEX 95 (94/9/EC) settles the requirements for equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. If you manufacture such equipment, you must comply with ATEX 95 if it is to be used in the European Economic Area.
