Our Board of Directors and the Executive Leadership Team

Thomas is the Chairman of the Lloyd’s Register Foundation and Chairman of Lloyd’s Register Group Limited. He is a member of the Foundation’s Nominations Committee and both the Foundation and Lloyd’s Register Group Limited Remuneration Committee. Thomas was Chairman of Ørsted A/S from 2014 to 2024 and is a former member of the executive Board of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group with more than 30 years tenure in its maritime and energy sectors. Thomas was appointed to the Board in July 2012.

Thomas is Chairman of VKR Holding A/S, the Senior Independent Director of IMI plc and a Non-Executive Director of BW Group Limited. He is a member of Friends of Ocean Action, the Energy Transitions Commission, an advisor to Arcus Infrastructure Partners LLP and a member of the Danish Committee on corporate governance.

Thomas previously served amongst others on the boards of SSE, DeepOcean (Chair), Petrofac (SID) and Green Hydrogen Systems.

Nick joined Lloyd’s Register in 1996 and was appointed CEO in January 2021. In an extensive career with LR, he has worked as a ship surveyor in Bahrain, Dubai, Finland and Germany before moving to China to spend seven years leading LR’s activities in the country. He has since been Director for Business Development and Innovation, Marine Chief Operating Officer and Marine and Offshore Director.

Nick is a graduate of Nottingham University, a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and a Member of both the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology. Nick sits on the Supervisory Board of the UK Chamber of Shipping and the Advisory Council of the Global Maritime Forum.

Mary joined LR as Chief Financial Officer in March 2016, having previously been Group Finance Director at Ultra Electronics plc. Before this Mary was Director, Group Finance at QinetiQ Group plc and Group Financial Controller at 3i Group plc. From 1998 to 2008, she held a number of senior roles at British Airways plc.

She is also a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Audit Committee at Oxford Instruments plc and a Non-Executive Director of Senior plc. Mary holds an MA in Physics from Oxford University.

Randy Chen is an experienced shipping executive, having been actively involved in family-owned Wan Hai Lines for many years. In recent years he has also become a well-known voice in the industry through his active participation as a Board Director in key industry organisations. He is currently a Director of the World Shipping Council, a Director and Deputy Chairman of both the UK P&I Club and the Global Maritime Forum.

Randy has served on the Wan Hai Lines Board of Directors since 2002 and has been serving as Vice-Chairman since 2015. Before joining Wan Hai Lines, he was a part of the senior management of Central Trading & Development Group, a Taiwan-based investor group with extensive infrastructure and real estate holdings in Vietnam. Randy also has extensive experience in software and financial services. Randy holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and English from Duke University, North Carolina, and an MBA from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Caroline, a Canadian with a degree in electrical engineering and an MBA from Harvard Business School, has deep experience in the field of professional services. Caroline was the Chief Operating Officer at Clifford Chance LLP, a major global law firm, from 2015 to 31 October 2022.

She previously led Accenture’s 1,000 person strategy practice for Europe, Latin America and Africa, and spent 12 years post MBA at strategy consultancy Monitor Company. Caroline is also an experienced entrepreneur having founded and worked with a range of startup and early stage companies in the life sciences and professional services sectors. Since the end of the period, Caroline has been appointed as a member of the Lloyd's Register Group Limited Audit and Risk Committee.

Mark is the Chief Executive Officer for RELX Group PLC’s Risk division.

Having begun his career with RELX in marketing, he went on to pioneer the launch of several online data services in the mid-1990s. Appointed as CEO in 2010, he was responsible for transforming the RBI division from a traditional magazine publisher to a leading provider of online and data services, turning-around the business and profitability. Mark holds a BA in Geography from Liverpool University and a MBA from Bradford University.

Michael was appointed Senior Independent Director on 26 May 2016. Michael is a Director of Lykiardopulo and Co Ltd and is responsible for the commercial management of a fleet of oil tankers and bulk carriers. He is a qualified barrister.

Michael was part of the Lloyd’s Register Board which helped formulate the plans for the 2012 restructure and he served as a Trustee to help oversee the initial development of the Lloyd’s Register Foundation. He is presently also Chairman of the Hellenic War Risks Association as well as serving as Vice Chairman of The Gard Insurance Mutual and a Director of the UK Freight Demurrage and Defence Association.

Nikolas was appointed as a Non-Executive Director of Lloyd’s Register Group Limited on 1 January 2024. He has been the CEO of Thenamaris (Ships Management) Inc. since 2013 and has over 20 years of experience in shipping, with an extensive understanding of commercial ship management in a number of market sectors.

Nikolas has served on the Board of the Hellenic Mutual Wark Risks Association since 2009, and was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Association in 2019. He is a member of the Board of Swiss Marine, appointed in 2019, and a Member of the Board of the Union of Greek Shipowners, appointed in 2022. Nikolas has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Boston University.

Marina was appointed as a Non-Executive Director of Lloyd’s Register Group Limited and a Trustee of Lloyd’s Register Foundation on 1 January 2023, and Chair of each of the Lloyd’s Register Group Audit and Risk Committee and the Lloyd’s Register Foundation Audit, Risk and Investment Committee from that date.

Marina has more than 25 years of experience in senior finance leadership roles as Chief Financial Officer of UBM Plc, TomTom NV, Colt Telecom Plc and Psion Plc. Marina is currently the Chief Financial Officer and an Executive Director of the Board of Associated British Ports Holdings. Marina is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and holds a geography degree from Cambridge University.

Chakib is a global leader in process automation, logistics and transportation. His technical strength is in choosing, adopting, rolling out, and measuring the impact of new technologies to increase productivity, accelerate collaboration, and create new revenue streams. Previously, Chakib worked as a Group Chief Technology Officer at Bahri, the national shipping company of Saudi Arabia, OSM Maritime Group in Singapore, and Bumi Armada Berhad in Malaysia. He has successfully identified new technology trends, created effective administrative policies, and developed ways to communicate technology needs for global organizations.

Additionally, Chakib is currently a member of the Technology Advisory Panel at the Singapore Maritime Institute, as well as an advisor for the Motion Ventures initiative, also in Singapore.

Discovering, understanding, and explaining new and future trends of technology and what it means for business processes are the key focus areas of Chakib. He functions as a key technology capability enabler for businesses and resulting transformation for the IT Maritime and Oil and Gas industries. His varied interests also transcend to Communication Technologies, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and Drone Technologies.

Chakib holds a Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) in International Business from Letourneau University, in Texas, USA

Philippa Charlton was appointed as the Chief Marketing Officer of Lloyd’s Register and member of the Executive Leadership team in February 2021, having spent the last two years as Marketing Director of their former Business Assurance division.

Prior to joining LR, Philippa was CMO of Averda, a global waste management company operating across multiple industry sectors in recycling, waste to energy and engineering projects in both the public and private sector, with a particular focus on emerging economies. Before that, she was the Group Marketing Director of a global security business who’s divisions included PGI Cyber which specialised in cybersecurity reliance for Corporate and International Governments and PVI, one of the world’s leading Maritime Security companies.

Her earlier career was spent in the Paper and Plastics industry in multiple international roles in both private and public businesses.

Mark joined Lloyd’s Register as a Marine Surveyor in 2000 and is currently the Chief Operations Officer for LR.

He is responsible for the overseeing commercial and business planning and developing strategies to improve the company’s competitive position. His aim is to lead, implement and communicate a global marine and offshore business strategy, establish a clear vision, and achieve operational goals for safety, quality, and financial performance.

A product of LR’s Graduate Training scheme, during his career with LR, Mark has worked as a ship surveyor Dubai, before taking on various operational, business and leadership roles across Asia, the Americas, Europe and the Middle East. In April 2020 he became the Chief Operating Officer for the Marine & Offshore business, based in Shanghai, before taking on the role of Business Director in January 2021.

Mark is a qualified Naval Architect and a graduate of the University of Strathclyde.

Andy is responsible for developing and executing LR's strategy to become a trusted advisor to maritime stakeholders, bringing together the deep domain technical expertise within the advisory and consultancy arms, and combining this with the data and digital expertise within the maritime software services to create value-added solutions for our clients.

Andy joined Lloyd’s Register as Commercial Director for the Marine and Offshore business in February 2019. Prior to joining Lloyd’s Register, Andy spent over 20 years in the marine, offshore and naval sectors for Cegelec, Alstom, Converteam and General Electric. Andy has held various global roles since embarking on his maritime career in 1998, ranging from shipyard commissioning, field engineering, project management, before moving into business and global leadership roles.

Sharron Pamplin was appointed as Chief People Officer in May 2022.

Sharron has significant experience in driving a high-performance culture within professional services businesses. Prior to LR, she was Chief People Officer at Deloitte, and has held HR Director roles at engineering consultants Atkins, and recruitment specialists Hays. She is a member of the Employment and Leadership Team at Business in the Community, and a non-exec director of engineering skills charity Enginuity.

Jo was appointed as Transformation Director of Lloyd’s Register and member of the Executive Leadership team in March 2023.

Jo has over 30 years’ experience of leading transformational change across complex, global organisations in a variety of sectors. Following an early career in business consulting, Jo held Group Leadership roles at BP, HSBC, and ANZ where she was responsible for driving major business change across people, process and technology.

Martin is a dynamic leader with proven experience in the maritime technology sector. As CEO, his focus is to drive LR OneOcean’s growth and establish it as the foremost provider of trusted digital solutions in maritime. Under his leadership, the company is poised to offer a consolidated digital portfolio that seamlessly connects stakeholders, ushering in a new era of industry collaboration and success.

Ruth is Chief Executive of Lloyd's Register Foundation.

She has a background in research, development and regulation primarily in the Space and Environmental sectors. She is a trustee of the National Oceanography Centre and Non-Executive Director at the UK Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Sciences.

She is on the Board for Engineering X; the advisory board for Resilience Rising; and is a commissioner with the National Preparedness Commission.

Jan Dieleman is the president of Cargill Ocean Transportation and is based in Geneva, Switzerland. He has spent more than 20 years at Cargill and has successfully managed businesses in the U.S. and Europe.

Jan first joined the company in 1999 as a management trainee in Amsterdam. He spent the next 10 years gaining experience as a trading manager in the freight, grain and energy markets, before being appointed head of Cargill’s coal trading business in 2012. He went on to lead Cargill’s North America power and gas unit in Houston, Texas, before returning to Geneva in 2016 as president of Cargill Ocean Transportation. At the same time, he was invited to join Cargill’s global corporate risk committee.

Across the maritime sector, Jan is a respected advocate for sustainable shipping, actively supporting reduced emissions, better vessel environmental performance, safer working conditions and a more diverse workforce. He is also a board member of the Global Maritime Forum and non-executive board member of RightShip and played a leading role, in October 2020, in launching the Sea Cargo Charter.

Stephen joined ING Bank in 2002 as Global Head of ING’s Shipping Finance Group with responsibility for managing the Bank’s loan portfolio to the shipping and maritime industry. He manages a team of approximately 35 people with teams based in Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London and Singapore. Stephen has over 40 years banking experience and during this time has worked in a number of different areas including retail banking, risk management and project finance. For the past 30 years he has been providing and arranging finance for the shipping industry.

Before joining ING, Stephen was based in Hong Kong where he was responsible for the Asian ship finance business of Bankgesellschaft Berlin AG and prior to this Hill Samuel Bank. Stephen was elected an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in 1983.

Suzanne works to deliver the Lloyd's Register Foundation's Sustainability Programme, including its Safer Oceans campaign. Suzanne is also Senior Advisor to the United Nations Global Compact's Sustainable Ocean initiative in their efforts to progress a healthier and more productive ocean. Previously she directed External Affairs for Lloyd’s Register Group. She has wide ranging experience in the energy sector, having previously worked for energy and water companies in government and regulatory affairs, investor relations and finance. Her energy sector experience also includes investment management, where she was responsible for utilities fixed income for Schroder Investment Management. Suzanne has served as special assistant to former Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick, U.S. permanent representative to the United Nations.

Suzanne is interested in advancing the private sector’s contribution towards the Sustainable Development Goals. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a Governor of the Ditchley Foundation, a member of the William Pitt circle at Chatham House and a Trustee for UK Associates of the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences.

Patrizia is an innovative leader in the use of technology and risk intelligence to drive the global marine insurance industry towards sustainability. Her career spans +20 years, during which she has managed marine insurance teams across Europe. Since 2012, she has been leading Swiss Re's global marine business for Corporate Solutions, with responsibility for the unit's cargo and hull business. During this time, she helped grow Corporate Solutions' marine business, managing a large global matrix organisation and business with a footprint across North America, Latin America, EMEA & APAC. Never shy to make changes that will drive profitability, she has pioneered everything from new models for cargo insurance based on behavioural analytics to developing a Marine 4.0 blueprint for the industry to leverage the industry's digitisation to drive sustainability.

Patrizia works across industries, governments and academia to bring new skills and perspectives to develop innovative solutions that enable the sector to transform. She has forged partnerships with global logistics companies, automotive companies, retailers, start-ups, and brokers to enable the end-to-end transformation of the sector.

Patrizia sits on the International Union of Marine Insurance's (IUMI) executive committee, where she also chairs the "Big-Data and Digitalization Forum". She is Deputy Advisory Board Member of the Global Maritime Forum (GMF), working on the "Getting to Zero Coalition".

Miriam Maes is Co-Chairman of The Energy Transition Forum which facilitates discussions on ways in which companies, organisations and governments in the United States and Europe can achieve a timely and responsible transition to a secure, affordable and low-carbon energy system. She is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Port of Rotterdam. In addition, she is a Non-Executive Director on several Boards in France, UK and the Netherlands. Miriam was Advisor to the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) in the UK.

Miriam has worked 35 years for multinationals, of which more than 20 years managing national and international P&L’s. She spent around 20 years in the B2B food and beverages sector and more than 15 years in the B2B energy and climate change space. Miriam was managing international food, foodservices and beverages businesses for Unilever, ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries) and the Marmon Group (privately owned by the US Pritzker family). In 2002, she entered the Energy sector, first with Texas Utilities (TXU) as member of their European Executive and subsequently with Electricity de France (EDF) in the UK, as COO of their non-regulated distribution networks' business (£500 million/Euro 600 million turnover and 2000 employees).

Irene Ng is the CEO of Dataswift Ltd and Professor at WMG, University of Warwick. She is also a Senior Member of Wolfson College, Cambridge and a Turing Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute. As an academic, her specialism is in service ecosystems and the economic design and engineering of data markets. As an entrepreneur, Irene is the founder of Dataswift, the infrastructure provider for decentralized data ownership that is driving interoperable data markets. Daniel is the CEO and Managing Director of central London based Zodiac Maritime. Zodiac Maritime forms part of the maritime arm of Ofer Global.

Zodiac was established in the 1970’s and is one of the world’s largest privately held shipping groups, with over 160 vessels with a diversified fleet of bulk carriers, car carriers, chemical carriers, containerships, LPG/C carriers, crude oil tankers, product tankers and offshore oil storage terminals. Zodiac operate over 50 containerships with an average size of about 9,000 teu. Zodiac’s operation prides itself on customer service and efficiency.

Zodiac was the first private shipping owner to have its environmental credentials audited by Lloyd’s and it regularly tops Maersk Efficiency Scorecard. Daniel has overall responsibility for Zodiac Maritime's Bulk Carriers, Container Ships, Car Carriers, Chemical Carriers and Gas Carriers.

Besides his CEO responsibilities, Daniel is currently a non-executive board member of the UK P&I Mutual Insurance Association and a board member of Ofer Global. Prior to joining Zodiac Maritime, Daniel worked as a banker in Credit Suisse's Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities division in New York.

Barry started his career in the Royal Marines giving him a first-hand insight into high performance culture, physical and mental resilience, and the importance of a sense of humour.

Over the last 20 years he has started and built businesses across a broad range of sectors from, Support Services, Armed Maritime Security, Corporate Intelligence, Cyber Security and the Legal Sector. This eclectic mix of experiences has developed a unique approach to people and business.

His companies have been featured in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 on three occasions and he has been listed twice in the Lloyds List Top 100 most influential people in shipping.

A lifelong obsession with human performance has led to collaborations with leading Academics and Doctors, as well as Government, Military and Intelligence Agencies across the world.

His aim in founding RSG was to combine commercial experience, with a range of world class performance experts, to create a truly integrated approach to helping business leaders and their business reach their potential.

Captain Rajalingam Subramaniam assumed his role as the President & Group CEO of the MISC Group on 1 October 2022. He is also the President & CEO of AET.

With a career spanning more than four decades across the maritime industry, Captain Rajalingam began his professional career at sea in 1983 and came ashore in 1996.

He has since held various leadership roles within the MISC Group before being appointed as the President & CEO of AET in 2016 and Chief Operating Officer of the MISC Group in February 2022. Captain Rajalingam is a Board Member of several subsidiaries and joint venture companies within the Group.

Beyond his leadership roles in the MISC Group, Captain Rajalingam is committed to advancing the progress and sustainability of the global maritime industry in various capacities including as a Board Member for Gard P&I, Executive Committee Member of the International Association of Independent Tanker Owners (INTERTANKO) and Advisory Council Member for Global Maritime Forum (GMF).

Kristian has more than two decades of strategic and senior management experience in the areas of ocean policy and science, environment, sustainability and development. He has broad international high-level experience in more than 35 countries, negotiating and managing projects in the public and private sectors.

In addition to serving as the global director of the Ocean Programme at WRI, Kristian Teleki is the head of the Friends of Ocean Action for the World Economic Forum, and the head of the secretariat of the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy.

Until early 2018, he was the senior marine adviser to the Prince of Wales’s International Sustainability Unit, and the director of engagement for the Ocean Unite network, an initiative of the non-profit arm of the Virgin Group. From 2012 to 2016, he was the director of global engagement at the Global Ocean Commission. Kristian has also served as vice president of SeaWeb (2009-2012), where he was responsible for sustainable-markets, science, and Asia-Pacific programmes, head of the marine programme at UNEP - World Conservation Monitoring Centre (2006-2009), and director of the International Coral Reef Action Network (2001-2009). Kristian is on the boards of several environmental, finance and science organisations, and the editorial board of the journal Aquatic Conservation.

Karrie joined Shell in 2012 and since 1st August 2021, has been responsible for the Shell Group’s Global shipping and maritime activities, including ships, barges, drilling units, floating production facilities and related operations. She is a leading spokesperson on safety and the environment, improving the efficiency of shipping and maritime operations, and driving technology and innovation, including digitalisation and decarbonisation.

Karrie began her career as a Surface Warfare Officer in the US Navy, serving as one of the first group of women assigned in combat ships.

Karrie is an Advisory Council Member of American Bureau of Shipping and Chair of the Blue Sky Maritime Coalition. She is also a Supervisory Board member at the UK Chamber of Shipping and also Co-Chair of their Shipping Defence Advisory Committee.

Born in the US, Karrie holds Bachelors and Masters engineering degrees from MIT, and an MBA from Georgetown University. She is married to Angela and lives in London.
