Competent people are the key for safe and efficient drilling operations

The Lloyd's Register Energy Drilling Academy provides a wide variety of training opportunities to support, maintain and enhance competencies and skills in various sectors within the drilling industry.

Staying competitive is the key to sustainability. Training your staff and keeping them motivated and up-to-date with drilling industry trends and new technologies is vital to achieve that goal. Employees benefit too, by learning new skills and becoming a valued asset in any organisation.

We have been the industry leader in rig inspection services since 1986 and has conducted over 5,000 successful rig inspections. We now share our knowledge and expertise through the LRED Academy. The LRED Academy provides the drilling industry with courses from introductory to advanced levels in the areas of mechanical, electrical, well control equipment, and HSE.

Lloyd's Register Energy Drilling Academy courses

Well control equipment

Our well control equipment courses can aid you with improving your skills in overall well control equipment on all types of drilling rigs up to gaining in-depth knowledge to perform adequate and safe operations involving sub-sea engineering ranging from land to deepwater operations.

Mechanical and electrical

Our mechanical and electrical equipment courses can benefit you by providing a solid basis in rig mechanics or electrics, up to gaining in-depth knowledge of how and why equipment can develop faults and consequently, fail.

We can provide in-house health, safety and environmental (HSE) training courses for HSE(Q) staff at all levels working within the drilling industry. Our in-house HSE(Q) training focuses on hazard awareness, workplace risk assessment and control and accident and incident investigations. Courses are specifically tailored to our clients' individual management systems to ensure optimal effectiveness.

Lloyd's Register Academy's tailor-made training courses are designed for companies whose staff require instruction on specific topics or who seek to develop a common knowledge base to address future challenges.

Rig inspection workshop

Planned maintenance and correct inspections are essential for the proper functioning of a drilling rig, reduction of rig downtime and personnel safety. Our rig inspection workshop (RIW) presents the correct inspection and maintenance procedures needed to ensure the integrity of equipment on floating rigs, jack-up rigs and land rigs.

Lloyd's Register Energy Drilling Academy levels

The LRED Academy has three levels: introductory, intermediate and advanced.

Introductory level training courses range from 3 to 5 days and will provide the candidate with a basic understanding of the required field of expertise.

Intermediate training courses are generally held over several 5-day modules. Some include on-the-job assignments and will provide the candidate with an in-depth knowledge of the required field of expertise.

Advanced training courses are divided into two 5-day classroom modules and candidates are required to complete a number of practical on-the-job assignments. This is the highest level of the LRED Academy and is aimed at candidates who want to deepen their knowledge after finishing a LRED Academy intermediate course.

Our trainers

Our trainers have been carefully selected and are all hands-on-oriented individuals who strive to create safer working environments by transferring their wealth of knowledge to a wide audience active in the drilling industry around the world.
