LR at the Global Superyacht Forum 2016

Lloyd’s Register hosted a series of workshops as part of the annual Global Superyacht Forum that took place in Amsterdam last week. The first, titled ‘Ask the class societies’ attracted over 50 delegates, who actively participated in the highly interactive workshop and asked many pertinent questions. Condition based surveying instead of time based surveying was a highly debated topic – with the amount of data now available from yachts, this is an option being explored by LR together with the flag states. Other topics discussed included surveyor consistency and the development of rules and regulations.

This workshop was a great opportunity for LR to gain valuable feedback, which is always welcome. If you have any suggestions on how we can improve our service, or wish to register a compliment or complaint, please contact LR’s Yacht Segment Manager Engel Jan De Boer or use this feedback form.

The second workshop hosted by LR addressed fire safety. With the increase of fire-related incidents onboard yachts in the past twelve months, we looked at why this is happening and what the yacht industry can do to prevent them in the future. The workshop focused mainly on improved onboard crew training and contact was made with various training schools to see how LR can assist by this making use of its extensive yacht training expertise, which you can find out more about here.
