The new European Union (EU) regulation on CO2 Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) for shipping will come into force on 1 July 2015, and the first reporting cycle will commence in 2018. Find out more and download our guidance document here.
The need to monitor, report and verify CO2 emissions for regulatory purposes presents a significant new requirement for ship operators. With this regulation, the European Commission (EC) is taking a first step towards setting CO2 emission reduction targets.
Although ship owners/operators already monitor fuel consumption for commercial purposes, MRV may present challenges from understanding the regulation to developing monitoring plans, processes and capability. However, it may also present opportunities for demonstrating transparency and added value to stakeholders.
This lunchtime seminar aims to help demystify MRV and shipping monitoring in general, what it means in practical terms and how to best prepare for its implementation.
Presentations will be delivered by LR experts actively involved in the regulatory developments on CO2 monitoring at IMO and EU.
