David Florence begins his Olympic campaign for Gold at London 2012

30 July 2012

Today, David Florence began his Olympic campaign competing in the first heats of the men’s C2 slalom race at the Lee Valley Water sports centre. Beginning with a shaky start it did not look hopeful for the 2008 Silver medal champion, as David and his partner Richard Hounslow encountered a six-second penalty after hitting gates 12, 17 and 20 (each impact adds two seconds to the final time). After the first run they placed 10th in the group - a full 7 places behind the other British hopefuls.

However, not all was lost, as both theirs and spectator’s prayers were answered as they completed their second run with a clean sheet and a respectable time of 101.08seconds. This ranked them 4th with an overall position of 7th in the group, easily qualifying for the semi-finals, which will take place on Thursday 2nd August.
