Lloyd's Register's role as an EU Notified Body

07 July 2016

Lloyd's Register's Notified Body services for European Union directives will not change following the recent UK referendum to leave the EU. LR will continue to provide its current services to global companies while the UK Government sets out arrangements for the withdrawal from the EU.

Lloyd's Register Verification Ltd. (LRV) holds Lloyd's Register's Notified Body accreditation. During the UK Government's transition period, LRV will be working closely with the Government Competent Authorities to ensure LRV remains an EU recognised Notified Body for all current EC Directives and EU Regulations after the UK leaves the EU.

LRV fully anticipates remaining a long term major EU Notified Body and has developed a number of potential options how this will be achieved, depending on the final agreements made between the EU and UK. Also, there are established, well-recognised existing mechanisms in place for entities in non-EU countries to participate as EU Notified Bodies. For example, Norway, Switzerland and Australia are not EU members, but have dedicated organisations that are recognised as Notified Bodies for the purposes of relevant EU legislation.

All LRV accredited certifications remain unaffected by the outcome of the referendum. We will continue to provide updates as events unfold.
