Asset type: Column-stabilised, semi-submersible, floating production unit.
Project scope: Classification and certification, including design appraisal and field surveys worldwide.
Clients: MISC Berhad
We provided classification and certification, including design appraisal and field surveys for Malaysia's first deepwater semi-submersible production system. The project encompassed joint owners and numerous vendors and contractors, managed from three key locations (Houston, USA; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and St John’s, Canada) over a six-year period.
Key to our role and the project’s continuing success was ensuring that the various suppliers adhere to statutory regulations and standards set by the industry and the clients, working closely with the relevant parties to provide the right resources at the right time.
Our involvement in this project began with a regulatory evaluation of the concept. It covered the classification of the hull and moorings to our Rules, a review of statutory aspects of the platform, and certification of the topsides’ process and structural systems to industry and client specifications. This scope included both design appraisal (carried out in Aberdeen, Halifax, Houston, Kuala Lumpur, London and St. John's) and field survey services at fabrication sites across Malaysia.
