Lynceus is an EU funded project aimed at revolutionising ship emergency management and evacuation
The Lynceus project has developed a wireless sensor network system that can track and locate passengers who are in danger, either onboard a ship or at sea. A series of personal tracking devices, including sensors on passengers’ lifejackets and wrist bracelets, will enable the network to pinpoint a passenger’s location, movements and even state of health onboard a ship. While lifejacket-mounted reflectors will help small aircraft or UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) to track passengers who have fallen overboard, or found themselves adrift in the sea.
LR is one of several industry partners involved with the project with the avowed aim of "People localisation for safe ship evacuation during emergency". The project won the Innovation Award at the Lloyd's List Global Awards 2014.
