Maersk FPSOs delivers safe and reliable floating oil and gas production services. For over 10 years, Lloyd’s Register Energy has delivered asset integrity services to four of its FPSO’s – The North Sea Producer and Maersk Curlew, both of which were moored northeast of Aberdeen, Scotland, the Maersk Ngujima-Yin located off the North West Cape of Western Australia and Maersk Peregrino located off the east coast of Brazil.

Business challenge for the customer

Maersk FPSOs was concerned that the approach taken to managing the integrity of process and marine systems had become routine and outdated. A backlog of inspection reviews had built up which could have impacted asset safety or production levels. A full gap analysis of the integrity management process assessment against industry best practice was needed to determine the current status.

How Lloyd’s Register helped

Over the course of three months, Lloyd’s Register carried out a gap analysis. The information collected was collated and developed into a project plan that identified poor or missing procedures, reports that lacked clarity and priority, and an ad-hoc approach to project and anomaly management.

Expertise applied:

  • Engineering
  • Project Management
  • Corrosion Risk Assessment
  • Inspection Planning and Management
  • Written Scheme of Examination
  • Integrity Statements and Anomaly Management and review
  •  Information System Implementation

We developed a project management plan and framework which set out the strategy on how the project was to be managed, the deliverables that had to be met along with identified milestones and prioritised the workscopes to increase project efficiencies. We also implemented our Risked Based Mechanical Integrity (RBMI) software solution, at the request of Maersk FPSOs, resulting in an improvement in integrity management and inspection planning by enabling us to identify the high critical items enabling us to identify and manage the integrity risk effectively.

  • Cleared backlog and increased productivity
  • More effective and secure document management
  • Identified and focused on priority activities
  • Reduced archiving costs
  • Reduced reporting time
  • No significant failures
  • Reduced risk
