Enhancing public understanding in marine and engineering science and history.
The Lloyd's Register Foundation Heritage & Education Centre based in London, is one of the finest library and archives of its kind, holding material concerning 267 years of marine and engineering science and history. Our aim is to enhance public understanding in these areas, encourage and support current research and to assist with research concerning the history and development of the Lloyd's Register Group globally.
Our historic reference library, featuring the Royal Institution of Naval Architects and IMarEST collections, covers many aspects of maritime history, science, offshore, nuclear and other engineering, tribology, materials and technology. For more information on our reference library, including opening times, visit our webpage on the Lloyd's Register Foundation website. If you are unable to visit our library, the LRF Heritage & Education Centre offers an historical research service.
Researchers can also use digitised historic editions of the Register Book, including the oldest surviving Register from 1764.
The Centre produces a number of research projects, focusing on subjects including digitisation and crowd sourcing.
