This is why LR has developed the BIM Level 2 accreditation scheme, which is the only independently developed BIM Level 2 Business Systems Certification that ranges across the scopes of BIM involvement throughout construction's diverse supply chain.
 
BIM Level 2 Accreditation represents an independent public statement of compliance with the PAS 1192 series of standards, BS 11000, the collaborative standard, and the LR BIM Accreditation Guidance document which introduces another level of risk management.
 

Beyond PAS 1192

At the core of BIM Level 2 is compliance with PAS 1192 - but to focus only on that standard, the scope would be too narrow. The added value that many organisations are looking for beyond a 'badge" comes from the LR BIM Level 2 Accreditation Scheme. This scheme introduces business best practice principles into the scope of assessment. These have been drawn from other accreditation and certification schemes in other sectors which are mostly risk-based. This more rounded and comprehensive BIM assessment process is particularly relevant for the supply chain scopes of certification and provide assurance to the tier 1 BIM project providers of the durable of their supply chain as well as process compliance.
 

The Accreditation Process

The LR BIM Level 2 Accreditation scheme achieves a balance between rigour of assessment and pragmatism - no documentation needs to be provided in advance of the assessment. The process is comprised of:
  1. Gap analysis: Identify any major gaps against the applicable standards and scheme principles
  2. Gap closure: Agreed-upon measures to address the gaps are performed
  3. Implementation assessment: Performed against a live BIM Project to determine if the company's system fully conforms to requirements. 
  4. Accreditation, full or partial: Once all deficiencies have been remedied, a full accreditation can be issued. If no live project is available during the implementation assessment, a partial accreditation will be issued until a live BIM project can be monitored.
The accreditation is valid for three years, during which time the BIM provider is under a surveillance program. Failure to demonstrate ongoing commitment to BIM and/or lack of maintenance of standards, competencies and processes can result in accreditation suspension or withdrawal.
