A low carbon world – is it realistic?
The 2010 Lloyd's Register Educational Trust Lecture and Dinner
The drive towards a low carbon world is presenting a considerable challenge in the UK and on the international stage. Industry in the developed world is faced with the need to adapt and accelerate its innovation to maintain its competitiveness. Advances in the low carbon era will not happen without the involvement and support of engineers.
The drive towards a low carbon world is presenting a considerable challenge in the UK and on the international stage. Industry in the developed world is faced with the need to adapt and accelerate its innovation to maintain its competitiveness. Advances in the low carbon era will not happen without the involvement and support of engineers.
• So where is the UK in all of this…in the lead or lagging behind?
• What international effort will be needed, either driven by governments or voluntary action to achieve the low carbon target?
• How will rapidly emerging economies, like China, India and the South American countries, impact on the efforts being made in the developed world?
• Will engineering excellence shift from the developed world to the developing world and does it matter?
• Is a low carbon world realistic or are we kidding ourselves?
