Robert Hansor is the new head of Climate Change and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) services for Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) in Asia.
Based in Beijing, Hansor will be responsible for delivering sustainable revenue growth across the region
Robert Hansor is the new head of Climate Change and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) services for Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) in Asia.
Based in Beijing, Hansor’s appointment comes as pressure mounts on the world’s biggest economies to reduce their contributions to climate change, and as China firmly establishes itself as the locale for most of the emission-reduction projects under the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).
“Robert joins us at the perfect time, both for LRQA and the wider Asian carbon market, particularly in China. His arrival strengthens our technical expertise and our ability to deliver carbon foot-printing services to the market at a time when service delivery is a global issue due to the volume of work that has emerged,” said Paul Phyall, LRQA’s Senior Vice-President -- Asia. “The advantages of independent CSR verification is also gaining attention among Asia’s more progressive companies, particularly those who need to develop relationships with image-conscious business partners in established markets.”
Hansor, who has an MSc Environmental Technology from Imperial College London, will be asked to lead the LRQA regional teams towards sustainable revenue growth in the sectors under his remit and ensure that all countries have the support they require to deliver their business plans, says Phyall.
China, and to a lesser extent India, has become a hot-bed of low-carbon investment in the past two years. According to a recent report issued by the World Bank, it accounted for 84% of the confirmed transactions in the primary CDM market in 2008.
In the 15 months to March 2009, the number of projects in China’s CDM pipeline more than doubled to 1,730, putting enormous pressure on companies that are UN-accredited Designated Operational Entities such as LRQA to clear the backlog while maintaining the integrity of the market. Presently, there are almost 2,000 projects in the China pipeline and almost 3,900 projects registered across the Asia-Pacific region.
Hansor joins LRQA from Environmental Resources Management, where for the past decade he helped to establish and grow the company’s energy and climate-change services in China, including its CDM validation and verification business.

Celebrating 250 years of service
In 1760, 11 men met in Edward Lloyd’s coffee house to talk about publishing a list of ships, a register to define their quality and safeguard life and property carried on them. In the years since then, we have applied our expertise across the energy and transportation sectors, helping to make the world a safer place. In 2010, we are celebrating 250 years of service and quality and we are looking forward to the new challenges the future brings.
