Yellow Book Training: Engineers' overview
Lloyd's Register is renowned for its Yellow Book training and in this two day course engineers, managers and others involved in safety-related projects are provided with a detailed walk-through of the fundamentals of the UK railway's handbook on Engineering Safety Management (ESM).
Objective
The Yellow Book is the UK railway's handbook on Engineering Safety Management (ESM). If you are involved with changes to the railway, you need to have an understanding of the Yellow Book.
We are renowned for our Yellow Book training, with our experts able to draw upon years of experience in either developing, teaching or applying its key principles.
This two day course provides engineers, managers and others involved in safety-related projects with a detailed understanding of the fundamentals of Yellow Book Engineering Safety Management (ESM). Guidance on implementation is provided throughout the course, and a certificate is awarded to candidates successful in the course examination.
Content
Through a mix of formal classroom presentations and practical exercises, attendees will gain:
An understanding of the fundamentals of ESM and the ability to apply Yellow Book guidance
Recognition of the need for a systematic approach to ESM
Experience of carrying out ESM activities and analyses
Following completion of this course, attendees will be able to:
Contribute to a safety plan
Demonstrate a sound understanding of the principles of ESM
Identify hazards and assess risks
Communicate safety-related information
Manage hazard logs and other safety records
Comprehensive guidance on implementation is provided throughout and all attendees will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience of the main techniques involved.
The course content is supported by a range of handouts that will serve as ideal reference material for future use and each attendee will receive a personal copy of the Yellow Book.
A certificate is also issued to attendees upon successfully passing the course exam.
