The Conference, took place in Seoul, Korea, from 13-16 June – it's theme being ‘Climate Change and Green Growth – Innovating for Sustainability’.
The Greening of Industry Network (GIN) is an international network of professionals from research, education, business, civil society organisations and government. It focuses on issues of industrial development, environment and society, and is dedicated to building a sustainable future.
The Seoul Conference attracted a large audience of environmental business leaders, corporate executives, researchers and NGOs, and local carbon management experts from major Korean industries such as Hyundai Motors, Samsung SDI, and Aekyung presented their ongoing ‘greening partnership’ activities. These included recent studies and programs from the academe and the Korean Government, which itself declared ‘Low Carbon Growth’ as the top priority policy agenda in August 2008, and which is now in the process of presenting a voluntary carbon emission reduction target.
Dr. Dave Mateo of Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) Climate Change & CSR Unit, Japan – was an invited speaker to the Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) session sponsored by the Korean National Cleaner Production Centre (KNCPC).
Dr Mateo delivered a presentation on ‘The Status of Enterprise Partnership and Carbon Footprint System in Japan’, and discussed the latest developments and challenges of the Japanese System. With the rapidly growing interest in Carbon Footprint of Products (CFP), his talk was received with great interest from many influential participants.
LRQA Korea, Managing Director, Mr SK Yoo, said; “It is very important to demonstrate our wide ranging international experience in the field of CFP to showcase our capability to potential Korean Inventory clients.”
Simon Batters, Vice President for LRQA Japan & Korea, said; “The GIN2010 participation was yet another example of our Asia based Climate Change team's capabilities benefiting both local and International businesses alike".
“The Japan GHG Team is closely following the developments of CFP System in Japan and East Asia, as a number of countries have identified CFP System as one of their main tools to tackle climate change.”
