Leading expertise for a safer world

Leading expertise for a safer world

Lloyd’s Register is very pleased to be hosting our third annual Technology Days event, this year held on board HMS Belfast in the Pool of London, under the broad theme of ‘safety, economy of operation and the environment’. We hope that this event, as well as giving us an opportunity to present on a wide range of technical activities to our clients and other industry stakeholders, also stimulates some interesting discussion among the audience on the issues and opportunities which it raises.

This year we cover subjects such as the role of the classification society in the 21st century, and discuss some of the approaches that can be used to safely apply and integrate rapidly advancing technology on board ships. We look at various current industry issues, some wholly technical, such as the impact of corrosion, and some related to the regulation of our industry, such as port state control and aspects of environmental legislation. Of course, some of our fundamental research into topics such as cavitation, hydrodynamics and hull-ice interaction, among others, is also included, as well as our work on current application of alternative fuels and future energy sources, such as LNG and fuel cells.

We are also fortunate to be joined by two guest speakers giving us their views on innovation in ship and marine engineering technology, and I would like to thank Mr Bo Cerup-Simonsen of A.P. Møller Maersk A/S and Professor Constantine Arcoumanis of City University for their contribution to our event.

I hope find this collection of papers to be of interest and useful for future reference - you can download them below.
