Understanding your needs
We understand that owners, designers and builders of luxury yachts require a service that delivers innovative design while meeting high standards of safety, comfort and reliability.
Our extensive experience, gained during the design, construction and operation of large yachts around the world, gives us a lead when it comes to understanding your requirements and enables us to develop services tailored to your individual needs.
We provide assistance at every stage, from concept development, through design and construction to operation. At all times, we help ensure that the yacht complies with construction and safety standards, while allowing the designer, builder and technical consultants the flexibility to create a yacht which achieves the owner’s expectation.
We have worked together with all the major yacht designers, technical consultants and builders, and currently we are supporting over 150 unique new construction projects.
More than classification
Lloyd’s Register has the leading market share of the existing yacht fleet and yacht orderbook. But we provide more than classification to our yacht clients. As a recognised organisation, we also carry out statutory certification, and we offer value-added services which help you go beyond basic compliance and can help enhance your reputation in the marketplace.
Certification
Our certification services help you demonstrate compliance with a wide range of current and forthcoming legislation. We carry out certification to the ISM and ISPS Codes on behalf of more than 60 flag administrations. The new Passenger Yacht Code provides an alternative to SOLAS for yachts carrying between 13 and 36 passengers. We can advise on compliance and implementation. Our gap analysis and verification services can help you prepare for the ILO Maritime Labour Convention’s implementation and support you in assessing your compliance.
Port state control
A new port state control (PSC) inspection regime, ‘THETIS’, means that commercial and private yachts will be subject to more frequent inspections within the Paris MOU region. Our port state control pocket checklists will help you prepare for inspections and reduce the risk of detention.
Noise and vibration analysis
Lloyd’s Register ODS has been providing noise and vibration analysis services to the yacht sector for over 30 years. We have developed state-of-the-art computational tools, test methods and measurement techniques to take guest and crew comfort to new heights.
Environmental services
Our environmental services include EP notation, a class notation that helps you demonstrate your environmental achievements, covering areas such as exhaust emissions, refrigerants, antifouling, and treatment of oily, grey and swimming pool water. Emissions control which offers guidance on fuels, exhaust abatement technologies and demonstrating compliance with SOx and NOx limits. Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) approval and verification for yachts under construction and in service.
Training
We provide yacht-specific training on classification and statutory requirements, which can be tailored to your needs.
