Products such as the PAS 55-1, published by the British Standards Institution (BSI), are rapidly gaining the attention of global power and utility companies to benchmark management practices in their asset-intensive industries. British Energy’s recent compliance with the BSI Publicly Available Specification 55 (PAS 55-1:2008) for asset management at all its nuclear power stations means it is the first nuclear operator to successfully achieve this certification through Lloyd’s Register.  During this last year, we also have made PAS 55 awards to companies in the USA and in Europe including:

• National Grid’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at the Isle of Grain quadrupled capacity with the construction of three state-of-the-art, above-ground storage tanks, the largest of their kind in the world, each with a capacity of 190,000 cubic metres 

• ScottishPower Energy Wholesale, which has responsibility for operating and maintaining 6,400MW of power generation in the UK 

• ESB Networks, the owner and operator of the electricity distribution network in the Republic of Ireland 

• E.ON Benelux, the first electricity generation company in The Netherlands to be awarded this international standard for effective management in the way it generates and delivers electricity, heat and gas to residential and business customers 

• Envoy, an Inexus Group company that provides comprehensive asset management services to utility infrastructure providers and asset owners.
