    Offshore Western Australia: Validation for 100 metre offshore bridge to new fixed platform

    This new platform needs to be connected to existing 25-year-old offshore facilities by a 100-metre bridge. Installing the deck by ‘float-over’ method will make this project the largest of its kind in the world. We are providing independent validation and design review services, attending sites in Australia, Indonesia and South Korea as well as a number of equipment vendors worldwide.

    MT Prem Prachi FSO: Certification, design review and survey - in six months

    This FSO conversion project was awarded to us for our in-depth knowledge of similar conversions, and our ability to provide a team of personnel local to the project team with specific specialist capabilities; of moorings, in particular. Our remit includes a detailed review of the design to covert the MT Seavoyager tanker to the MT Prem Prachi FSO unit (148,349 DWT). Mercator Lines will operate the FSO unit in the Ebok Field, offshore South East Nigeria.

    Gulf of Mexico: Technical guidance and classification for Floating Production Unit (FPU)

    To meet the demands of extreme weather conditions in the Gult of Mexico, Helix Producer I is the Gulf’s first ship-shaped, disconnectable, dynamically positioned FPU. Over three years, we provided classification services and regular, technical consulting expertise, guiding the clients through international safety standards and helping to solve technical challenges. The project team comprised specialists from several of our offices, including Aberdeen, Copenhagen, Halifax, Houston, London, Piraeus and Rijeka.

    Gumusut-Kakap field: Design appraisal and field survey with multiple owners, vendors, contractors and locations

    We bring a consistent, independent, third-party view to an international project that encompasses joint owners and numerous vendors and contractors, managed from three key locations (Houston, USA; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and St John’s, Canada) over a six-year period. The scope includes both design appraisal (carried out in Aberdeen, Halifax, Houston, Kuala Lumpur, London and St. John's) and field survey services at fabrication sites across Malaysia.

    UK: Independent third-party inspection authority (ITPIA) for Sizewell ‘B’

    As the independent third-party inspection authority (ITPIA) for the Sizewell ‘B’ nuclear facility, covering the project’s major components and construction, our participation in the public enquiry helped achieve design, manufacturing and installation excellence and reassured the public and other stakeholders of the plant’s safety. Today, we perform in-service inspection as the authorised inspection agency and competent person.

    North Sea: Independent verification provided for BP Clair fixed platform

    This project required design appraisal in Houston and inspection at major fabrication sites in Norway and the UK and equipment package fabricators across Europe. The implementation of different standards, practices and processes into a UK regulatory environment posed particular challenges for the verification scheme, which we embraced with an innovative and flexible approach. We now act as the operational Independent Verification Body.
