We operate the National Electricity Registration Scheme on behalf of the UK Distribution Network Operators (DNOs). The scheme represents part of an ongoing process to introduce competition into the electrical services market.

What is NERS?

Under the scheme we perform technical assessment of the Service Providers who elect to be assessed for accreditation for contestable works associated with the installation of electrical connections, see Frequently Asked Questions under related documents (FAQ's). The scopes of registration are as follows:

  • substation installation (11kV,33kV,132kV)

  • all associated civil engineering works including excavation, cable laying and backfilling.

Note: each voltage rating detailed in brackets represents a separate registration category

What are the benefits?

Accreditation under the scheme will provide the service provider with the following benefits:

  • accreditation recognised by all UK DNOs

  • independent assessment and registration process

  • assignment of an accreditation mark which will represent the achievement of a high technical, quality and safety standard
