Overview
ISO containers, also known as intermodal or box containers, need to be inspected and certified according to international regulations.
This common set of safety regulations is set out by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in the Convention for Safe Containers (1972). The CSC states that an approved classification society is able to carry out the inspection and certification of these containers.
The inspection and certification must be done before a new container is put into service. The next inspection comes no more than five years after the date of construction, as long as the container has been in use for at least two years. After that, the CSC states ISO containers should be inspected roughly every two years (no more than 30 months).
