This standard, originally published in 2006, has been designed to ensure best practice in the handling, storage and/or distribution of food, consumer goods and packaging materials. It provides a framework for best practice for any organisation involved in the storage and/or distribution of goods and the requirement for organisations to demonstrate continual improvement of their systems. BRCGS Storage and Distribution is applicable to all forms of transportation.
The standard has a focus on management commitment, reflecting the importance that top management plays in achieving certification and the introduction of a risk-based approach to compliance with relevance to handling consumer products and packaging.
There is an emphasis on Hazard and Risk Analysis to identify and manage potential product safety risks and there is a requirement for a documented quality management system. This is supplemented with particular best practice requirements for managing the operation, the conditions of any storage site and site personnel.
