Overview
Increased global trade brings new health and safety challenges, which have driven the need for an international OH&S management system standard, enable global benchmarking and to raise the bar for health and safety in the workplace. Published on 12 March 2018, ISO 45001 aims to help organisations demonstrate their commitment to workplace safety and reinforce their business’ reputation with customers and employees alike.
Organisations certified to OHSAS 18001 will have three years to migrate to the new standard, which introduces a framework that can be used throughout the supply chain to create a health and safety culture that will continually improve your OH&S performance. The new health and safety standard is an opportunity for organisations to align their OH&S management system with their strategic direction or introduce a health and safety management system with a focus on improving OH&S processes and performance.
Benefits of ISO 45001
A healthier and safer workplace
ISO 45001:2018 aims to reduce the estimated 2.78 million work-related deaths and 374 million non-fatal work-related injuries that occur each year according to the International Labour Organization (ILO), encouraging employee engagement to avoid accidents and ill health and improve wellbeing.
Maximise productivity
Manage evolving risk profiles through a systematic process to keep your workforce healthy, minimising downtime for optimal daily output.
Globally recognised
ISO 45001 raises the bar for occupational health and safety, setting a new standard to give suppliers a competitive edge when bidding for global contracts.
Simple integration
The ISO health and safety standard aligns with the Annex SL - the same High Level Structure as ISO 9001:2015 (quality management systems) and ISO 14001:2015 (environmental management systems); presenting simpler management systems controls you can integrate into a broader ‘business management system'.
