Canoe Slalom World Champion David Florence will be leading the charge for gold at next year's Olympic Games in Rio, following the Selection Trials.
After an outstanding performance at the World Championships in September, Florence had a head start for Olympic selection, but still needed to win one race in C1 and one in C2 of the three selection races, at the Trials last month. Despite a difficult first C1 run, when he capsized and missed two gates, he made up for it by winning the second run. He went on to deliver a winning performance in the Men's C2 with Richard Hounslow.
Afterwards, Florence said, "It's been a really long season and I'm very glad to have finished now. I've dreamt of getting the opportunity to race at the Olympic Games in Rio for the last three years and have worked so hard to try to get there. I'm absolutely delighted to have now earned my place on Team GB and I'm so excited about the prospect of competing in Rio next year!"
We are long-standing supporters of Florence, for whom Rio will be his third Olympic outing. He said: "My relationship with Lloyd's Register Energy goes beyond the standard sponsorship arrangement. The challenges in business, elite sport and even life in general require many of the same personal skills to deal effectively with them, so I spend time at Lloyd's Register Energy helping people be the best they can. In my experience, those who can develop those skills are happier and better placed to achieve their goals."
John Wishart, Group Energy Director, said: "David continues to achieve great things, which reflects his talent, drive and commitment. As part of our ongoing collaboration with David, he empowers individuals and teams throughout Lloyd's Register Energy by drawing on the insights he has gained through elite sport. We know that our business can only be as good as its people so we invest in enabling them to get the most out of their talent, in the same way that David does."
