Well control: IWCF DWC level 4 advanced and Enhanced renewal.

Well control: IWCF DWC level 4 advanced and Enhanced renewal.

The Well Academy and Lloyd's Register have joined forces to develop and offer the drilling industry a new advanced and enhanced drilling well control certification program. The enhanced renewal provides a unique combination of the Well Academy's scenario based well control training combined with Lloyd's Register's advanced well control equipment training. The course is aimed at fulfilling the requirements of International Well Control Forum (IWCF) advanced and enhanced renewal at level 4 certification.

The course offers delegates the opportunity to bring their IWCF level 4 certification to the next level by introducing an interactive learning environment on a high fidelity simulator combined with an extensive well control equipment curriculum. The course is offered for both surface and subsea BOP (blowout preventer) stack.

The program is structured in such a way that theoretical content learned is then applied the same day in an interactive simulated environment, testing both procedural competency and equipment knowledge gained. The simulator environment also challenges the student's behavioural competencies while simulating various well control scenarios.

You will learn

The course includes lessons and activities that go beyond basic well control knowledge and include topics that have not been previously covered in IWCF certified courses. Delegates explore well control case studies and are encouraged to share their own experience. An IWCF enhanced practical assessment and standard written examination is an integral part of the program. Upon successful completion, delegates receive a IWCF level 4 certificate valid for 2 years and stating they completed the advanced and enhanced course.

A selection of the following topics forms the basis for the program content. The actual course content differs year on year to continually meet drilling industry requirements.

  • Volumetric stripping

  • Barrier management

  • Gas migration

  • Displacement/circulation

  • Equipment malfunction

  • Inspection and maintenance

  • Industry norms and standards

  • Testing procedures

The advanced well control equipment elements of the training teach candidates the operation, maintenance and inspection regimes and common failure characteristics of a rig's well control equipment. Particular attention is given to the operation and failure modes
of both conventional and multiplex control systems. Applicable standards related to operation, maintenance and testing of well control equipment and the interpretation thereof is discussed. Common well control calculations
(basic subsea principles and pressures, accumulator useable volumes, riser space- out and drill pipe space-out) are practised in class.

Suitable for

Admission to the course is open for individuals who have completed previous IWCF drilling well control level 4 certification achieving at least 80% in each component. The course is optimised for the following positions:

  • Toolpushers

  • Rig Managers

  • DSV/Company men

  • Drilling Engineers

  • Drilling Managers

  • Operations Managers
