What is the UKCA mark?
The UKCA (UK Conformity Assessment) mark is the new marking required on certain products sold in England, Wales and Scotland (excluding North Ireland), following the UK’s departure from the EU. It will be used to confirm the product meets current legislation requirements and will be applied to most products that currently require the CE mark in order to be placed on the UK market.
Nevertheless, products that currently require CE marking will still need a CE marking to be sold in the EU, as the UKCA mark will not be recognised in the EU market.
What is the deadline?
The UKCA marking can be used from 1st January 2021. However, CE marking will continue to be accepted until the end of 2021.
The UKCA mark must be applied from this date on products which requires a third-party UK conformity assessment, or if an approved UK body has carried out a conformity assessment and the files have not been transferred from the body to a recognised EU body before 1st January 2021.
From 1st January 2022 only products with the UKCA mark will be accepted in England, Wales and Scotland.
What products must use the UKCA mark?
Most products currently required to use CE marking will need to switch to UKCA marking by the end of 2021. You can check whether UKCA marking will be required for specific products here.
How can your suppliers based in the EU prepare for UKCA marking?
If a product is required to change to UKCA marking, the manufacturer should contact an approved UKCA marking body who will be able to help them through this process.
