In November 2020, the IMO agreed to amend MARPOL Annex VI to introduce a new technical efficiency standard for in-service vessels: the ‘Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index’ (EEXI).

The package of changes is due to:

  • Be adopted in June 2021
  • Enter into force during the fourth quarter of 2022

Your immediate focus should therefore be on completing your EEXI and improvement calculations, if you haven’t done so already.

Many shipowners are either yet to commence the process or, in many cases, are only vaguely aware of the requirements. There is opportunity to get ahead of the game and prepare for a future of sustainability.

Timeframes are short. There are several steps you may need to complete to achieve compliance. Act quickly to avoid the risk of your ships being unable to trade internationally.

Webinar: EEXI compliance and Carbon Intensity Reduction.

This webinar will explain the important aspects of the two requirements the IMO is expected to approve in June 2021 to reduce the carbon intensity of shipping: the EEXI.
