Nuclear Academy: PSA part 2 (Advanced PSA)


Lloyd's Register organises training courses in PSA (probabilistic Safety Assessment) and RiskSpectrum software user courses.

The Lloyd's Register Nuclear Academy offers a comprehensive  training programme in nuclear safety for all young and experienced consultants and engineers working within the nuclear sector. The programme includes an introductory course, an advanced course, and a range of specialised PSA training modules, including Seismic PSA and Human reliability analysis.

PSA Part 2 - Advanced PSA

PSA Part 2 - Advanced PSA (4 days) 

The purpose of this course is to give participants an introduction to specific PSA topics such as:

  • Low power and shutdown PSA
  • Internal hazards
  • External hazards
  • Level 2 and Level 3 PSA.

The course is tailored to individuals with some experience in PSA (either the PSA Part 1 course or working experience). The lectures combine theory with practical examples, and there are exercises using RiskSpectrum® PSA.

  • Plant Operating States
  • Low Power and Shutdown PSA
  • Internal Hazards PSA, fire, flooding
  • External hazards PSA, Seismic, aircraft crash and non-Seismic Hazards
  • Level 2 PSA - Interface Level 1 and 2 PSA
  • Plant damage states
  • Accident progression analysis (containment event trees)
  • Containment failure modes and performance
  • Phenomena during severe accidents
  • Release categories and source terms
  • Quantification of large early release frequency (LERF/LRF)
  • Hands-on Practice using RiskSpectrum® PSA
  • Shutdown PSA modelling vs. full power PSA modelling
  • Integrated Level 1 and 2 PSA modelling
  • Internal and external hazards
  • Containment event trees and release categories Overview of Level 3 PSA.

PSA Part 2 (Advanced PSA) - (4 days, 8-11 Oct 2019)

To register for this course, please contact the course leader. We will need the following information:

  • Delegate name/s

  • Affiliation

  • Contact details

  • The name of the course you wish to register (for example PSA part 1 training in Stockholm)

Registration closes 31 May 2019.


PSA part 2 course dates & fees

Delegates will receive:

  • 7-8 hours training per day

  • Training Course documentation

  • Lunch and refreshments

  • Dinner on the first evening

  • Course fee is EUR 3,990.
  • If you book all four days before 31 May 2019 you benefit from a reduced course fee of EUR 3,890.

Cancellation policy

In the event of a cancellation, please notify us immediately. If the cancellation occurs later than 30 days before the course start the course fee will be charged. The registration can be transferred to another person within your company. If so, please notify us so that we can update course certificates etc.

We reserve the right to cancel the training course if there are insufficient delegate numbers. In this event, we will notify you within 3 weeks of the start date.

Copying of course documentation and software is not allowed. This also applies to usage of educational material by third parties. Exceptions, complete or partial, may take place only after agreement with course coordinators within Lloyd's Register.

We will also be running a Human reliability analysis course in 2018. The dates have not yet been confirmed but if you are interested in finding out more please contact the course leader.
